Rate

I firmly believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the excitement of learning Ancient Greek or Latin and obtain the benefits these can bring. This is why I have decided to provide a fixed rate of £40 per hour online or £45 per hour in-person in the North of England for my tutoring sessions.

In exceptional cases, I may need to charge slightly more to cover the costs of my travel to our in-person session. In that case, I will always notify you well in advance, so that we can change to the online format if you prefer.

Payment Method

Payment is made by bank transfer, with the details given to you before or shortly after our session. Please ensure that payment is made by the Friday of the week in which we have a session.

Duration of Sessions and Scheduling

While having one 1-hour long session a week may suit many students, I often find that having 3 or 4 hours with a student a week allows for a a steady progress and better retention of learning through the regular immersion in the language/s, especially if I am their main Latin/Ancient Greek teacher. It also allows for a swift development of rapport and personal connection. Once we agree on a regular time slot for our weekly session, I will keep this slot reserved for you for as long as you need it.

As you progress as a learner, the complexity and form of the work we do together will change. You may also find that your schedule or circumstances change or simply that having an hour-long session is not the best fit for you. You may, therefore, like to arrange for our sessions to last for a longer or shorter time or to be more or less frequent per week. I am always happy to discuss your needs and, if needed, review the pattern of sessions, so that they work best for both of us.

We might, for instance, decide to have a 2-hour long session per week, with a break in the middle, or several half-hour sessions. In that case, the exact rate may vary but always on the basis that £40/45 is chargeable for an hour. Whatever your circumstances and schedule, I look forward to arranging sessions with you.

Groups

As I believe that a student makes the best progress when I can devote my full attention to them during a session, I prefer to keep groups to a maximum of two or three students. For a second or third student, the rate decreases to £35 and £30 per hour respectively.

Online Sessions

For online sessions, I will usually send out the link to join our Microsoft Teams meeting on the Monday before we are due to meet. For online sessions, please ensure that you are in a quiet and comfortable place with minimal noise interference and distractions at hand before we start the meeting and that your device is positioned stably on a table or other level surface. If possible, please also ensure that your device is charged and that your camera and microphone work before our session. These steps will allow us to run the session enjoyably, smoothly and without difficulties.

I will never charge more for a session if it has overrun by less than 10 minutes.
